Believer

Believer es una canción del grupo estadounidense Imagine Dragons, publicada en los primeros meses de 2017, perteneciente al álbum Evolve. 

De manera muy general, Believer es una canción en la que el narrador cuenta cómo aprendió a salir adelante, a pesar de los obstáculos y el dolor que pasó en su vida. Es decir, muestra cómo este personaje aprendió a obtener provecho de las adversidades para destacar y salir adelante. Demostrando, así, el hecho de que lo que no mata a uno lo hace más fuerte.

La letra nos deja ver que el narrador se encuentra cansado y agobiado por la manera en que ha conducido su vida, se da a entender cierto quiebre emocional, principalmente en su dificil infancia.

Además, el protagonista pareciera estarse refiriendo a una persona, a la que le pide que deje de involucrarse en su vida. Nos da a entender que esa persona tomaba decisiones por él y lo controlaba a su antojo. Ante esto, el el narrador ha tomado la decisión de poner punto final a esta situación, a lo que le dice que no lo permitirá más, ya que ¨él es quien lleva el timón de su vida y es el amo de su propio océano¨ (“I’m the one at the sail. I’m the master of my sea”). 

Todos estos problemas, fueron resueltos poco a poco gracias a la música, las canciones que compuso nacieron directamente del sufrimiento y del dolor que sentía. Las críticas y el rechazo que recibía de ciertas personas es un factor que lo motiva a él a seguir creciendo: “All the hate that you’ve heard has turned your spirit to a dove”.

Conclusión: el mensaje central es que él fue capaz de crear algo bello en sí mismo a través del dolor, que nació gracias a sus frustraciones y experiencias negativas. Ahora pareciera comprender que todo lo vivió anteriormente no fue vano, sino que estas experiencias de la vida lo ayudaron a ser un creyente o un soñador (“believer”), alguien que cree en sí mismo y en su capacidad de sortear las adversidades y a sacar provecho de ellas...
